Nine Palestinians have been killed during an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank, according to a report.

The dead included a 60-year-old woman in the city of Jenin.

According to the Israeli army, its soldiers went to capture Islamic Jihad militants who were planning "major attacks".

The Palestinian president has accused Israel of a "massacre" in Jenin.

The infiltration is part of what the Israeli military describes as an anti-terrorist offensive that began last April.

Heavy shelling and explosions rocked the Jenin refugee camp on Thursday morning.

And it was because Israeli soldiers surrounded the buildings and clashed with Palestinian terrorists.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified three of the dead as 60-year-old Magda Obaid, 24-year-old Saeb Ezerki and 26-year-old Ezzedine Salahat.

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) said its troops had entered Jenin to arrest an Islamic Jihad "terrorist squad".
